Although kunekunes are said to come from New Zealand they are not in fact indigenous to that country, having actually descended from an Asian domestic breed and introduced into New Zealand by travellers in the early 19th century.
The name Kune-kune is a Maori term meaning "fat and round." They are the smallest domesticated breed of pig in the world with a naturally placid, friendly nature and enjoy the company of humans.
Gretel came from a large litter and joined us at the sanctuary after adequate living space became an issue. We like to think they are enjoying a fairy tale life as they happily grunt and snort away in their new home!
All the money from this adoption will go straight to the Animals. We do not pay any administrative wages, which ensures every penny is used to pay for food, land rental, shelter, vets' bills and on-site husbandry.
You can visit your animals between the months of mid-May to mid-September. Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary is based in Wolverton (Stratford Upon Avon), Warwickshire.
